Reports to: Manager of Re-entry Services

FLSA: Exempt

Under the direction of the Vice-President of Workforce Development, the Re-entry Transition Specialist helps returning citizens, and justice-involved individuals become economically self-sufficient through intensive case management, job search assistance, and retention. This position works closely with the Workforce Development staff, partner organizations, and training and educational providers and reports directly to the Manager of Re-entry Services.

Primary Function

Under the direction of the Vice-President of Workforce Development, the Re-entry Transition Specialist helps returning citizens, and justice-involved individuals become economically self-sufficient through intensive case management, job search assistance, and retention. This position works closely with the Workforce Development staff, partner organizations, and training and educational providers and reports directly to the Manager of Re-entry Services.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential:

  • Assist with facilitating the case planning cycle with participants and families. This includes completing intake, full participant assessment, assisting with the individual career plans of each participant in collaboration with additional CUL staff.
  • Work with a variety of paroled, probation, or incarcerated individuals.
  • Co-facilitate linkages to services identified within initial application and assessment form.
  • Use expanded knowledge of community resources and help participants utilize resources.
  • Work collaboratively with community resources/CUL staff to help problem solve issues in participant’s service utilization.
  • Provide support to clients in meeting goals on their Individual Career Plan.
  • Provide one-on-one and group instruction in re-entry program areas.
  • Models appropriate behavior for clients; motivates clients by ensuring a positive and safe environment and maintaining site morale.
  • Work within contract, grant, program requirements including meeting timelines and reporting requirements.
  • Complete case notes and status checks on a weekly basis, to achieve the educational and career goals of each participant.
  • Monitor and track progress of the program participants utilizing agency and program outcome measures.
  • Maintain written records/case notes and generate reports related to progress and outcomes of programming and track and enter data into agency’s system.
  • Helps participants access basic self-help services through effective use of the resource room
  • Assist participants with resume and cover letter development. Suggests resume formats and helps in determining how and where the participant sends his/her resume
  • Is thoroughly familiar with electronic, print and other resources to help participants in making helpful career and job search suggestions
  • Provides weekly reports on customer service and outcomes in the appropriate management information systems
  • Provides job search assistance
  • Carries out special projects as requested by his/her supervisor or manager on or off site
  • Completes required participant case records/documentation

Interaction:

This position requires the individual to work closely with internal and external partners, funders, the legal system, collaborative networks, and community stakeholders.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5-7 years’ experience in workforce development.
  • Experience in any/all of the following: Supervision, teaching, training and development.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to establish/maintain excellent community relations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong organization and time management skills.
  • The ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Provide own transportation and adequate insurance.
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license and clear driving record.
