Energy Transition Navigator

The Chicago Urban League works to achieve equity for Black families and communities through social and economic empowerment. The organization is an affiliate of the National Urban League, the nation’s oldest and largest community-based movement devoted to empowering African Americans to enter the economic and social mainstream.  Founded in 1916 by an interracial group of community leaders, the Urban League was formed to help rural African Americans migrating from the south adjust to northern urban living. As one of the major civil rights organizations in Chicago, and one of the 98 affiliates of the National Urban League, the CUL is committed to supporting and advocating for economic, educational, and social equality for African Americans.

Primary Function

The Energy Transition Navigator is a pivotal role dedicated to fostering a network of community-based providers throughout Illinois. The primary objective of this position is to facilitate community education, outreach, and recruitment efforts aimed at encouraging eligible individuals to participate in clean energy workforce and contractor development programs.

Duties and Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Community Engagement:
    • Establish and maintain relationships with local community organizations, leaders, and stakeholders.
    • Organize and attend community meetings, workshops, and events to promote clean energy programs.
    • Develop and distribute educational materials to raise awareness about clean energy opportunities.
  • Outreach and Recruitment:
    • Identify and target eligible individuals for participation in clean energy workforce and contractor development programs.
    • Implement outreach strategies to maximize program participation, including door-to-door canvassing, phone banking, and social media campaigns.
    • Conduct informational sessions and provide one-on-one consultations to potential participants.
  • Program Development and Support:
    • Collaborate with program managers to design and refine outreach and educational strategies.
    • Assist in the development of training materials and curricula for clean energy workforce programs.
    • Provide ongoing support and mentorship to program participants, helping them navigate the training and development process.
  • Data Collection and Reporting:
    • Track outreach and recruitment activities, maintaining accurate records of interactions and outcomes.
    • Prepare regular reports on program participation, engagement efforts, and community feedback.
    • Analyze data to identify trends and areas for improvement in outreach strategies.
  • Partnership Building:
    • Develop partnerships with educational institutions, workforce development agencies, and other relevant organizations to support program goals.
    • Coordinate with local governments and utilities to align efforts and maximize impact.
    • Assist with obtaining MOUs, Letters of Support, and other documents for grant application purposes.

Nonessential:

Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Workforce Development.

Interaction:

 This position requires the individual to work closely with the Workforce Development staff, collaborative partners, and contractors. He/she must possess great attention to detail and have strong organizational skills. This individual must understand, maintain, and uphold the mission and vision of the Chicago Urban League.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Proven experience in community outreach, education, or a related role.
  • Strong understanding of clean energy principles and workforce development.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire diverse communities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with CRM systems.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel throughout Illinois as required.
