Hi, my name is Jeanna Hall, and this is day 9 of our Student Mission Trip to China. We started our day attending a class about Solar Energy. Dr. Lv educated us about the different types of energy as well as the effects they have on our daily lives. He discussed things such as solar heating, photovoltaics, solar cells and so much more! We then went to another seminar to learn about Social Development and Anti-Poverty Works in China. Dr. Liu began by comparing poverty in China and poverty in the United States. She then talked about the poverty in China and showed pictures visualizing how being in poverty looks in China. After showing us the difference between the countries and showing us how being in poverty looked, we discussed ways to alleviate poverty.
Hi, my name is Jasmine Pierce. It is now day 9 and this experience so far has been one that I cannot forget. Today, we had a workshop on Chinese Calligraphy. Chinese Calligraphy is a kind of abstract art, with limited colors and lines. I have been taking Chinese for 3 years and learning Chinese Calligraphy is something that I could never experience first-hand in the classroom, and I am so happy that I was given this opportunity. The Calligraphy Art that we made said “Keep the Promise.” We also had a workshop in which we painted Chinese characters of our choice on t-shirts. On my t-shirt, I painted the characters that represented “blessings” and “happiness.” After everyone finished, we had a contest for the top 3 in the class which was judged by our instructor. I cannot wait to see what the rest of the trip has in store for the rest of the group and me.
