Illinois Navigator
Job Title: Illinois Navigator
Reports to: Chief Operating Officer
Salary Range: $35,000 – $40,000 (depending on experience)
FLSA: Independent Contractor
The Chicago Urban League is seeking to hire three (3) Illinois Navigators, who will be responsible for assisting individuals in enrolling in the Affordable Care Act Health Insurance Marketplace. They will assist in making sure individuals understand their healthcare options and can enroll into the appropriate health plans. The maximum time commitment will be 30 hours per week.
Illinois Navigator candidates are required to complete a background check during the hiring process. Upon hire, the Illinois Navigator must be trained by October 1, 2024, and licensed by November 1, 2024.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities-include the following: These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Conduct community outreach to inform individuals about the ACA, available health insurance options, and enrollment periods.
- Provide personalized assistance to individuals seeking to enroll in health insurance plans through the marketplace. This includes helping them understand plan benefits, coverage options, and financial assistance programs available.
- Assist individuals in completing applications for health insurance coverage through the marketplace. This involves explaining the application process, ensuring all required information is provided accurately, and addressing any questions or concerns.
- Maintain accurate records of interactions with individuals, including documenting inquiries, applications submitted, and outcomes. Prepare reports as required by supervisor.
- Ensure compliance with all federal and state regulations regarding confidentiality, privacy, and ethical standards in providing assistance to individuals.
Required Experience and Training:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Health, Education, Public Health, Communications, or related field. Associate’s degree and relevant experience considered.
- Ability to communicate clearly in person and on the phone.
- Ability to work effectively with persons of all ages and diverse backgrounds, skills and abilities
- Ability to carry out responsibilities with flexibility to adapt to changing needs and goals.
- Must be computer literate with familiarity utilizing client management systems
Preferred Experience and Training:
- Two years of experience working in health field or program coordination.
- Two years of experience in event planning and outreach coordination.
- Three years of job-related experience including health insurance and taxes.
- Two years of data management experience
Working Conditions:
- Some travel required.
- Must be available to work some evenings and weekends.
- Driver’s license and automobile insurance as required by the State of Illinois.
- Employment background screening required.
- Fingerprinting screening required.
